Le Parisien: The Search for a Cloud-Based Solution for Archive Indexing and Rapid Distribution
In the midst of ever-evolving demands linked to digital transformation super-charged by the pandemic, Le Parisien’s Editorial Video Department was searching for a solution that would deliver advanced video asset archive management, storage, publication and the added component of monetization.
It also needed a platform that enabled advanced remote collaboration for its team. Having originally adopted a media asset management (MAM) solution in 2018, the team’s decision to update its archive management solution was also based on reducing high annual support costs along with improving agility with a cloud-based solution.
In order to create this enhanced collaborative environment, the team needed a centralized, cloud-native platform that would allow for easy access, storage and sharing of proprietary content. At the same time, they needed a solution which would provide strong interoperability with their existing tools, integrations and editorial workflow.
Editorial Workflow Needs: Ina MEDIAPRO, DailyMotion and YouTube Interoperability
Over the past three years, the team’s annually produced videos have increased from 20 to +100 million views. Monthly production size stands at 200 Gb with around 30 hours of treated video content.
This steep uptick in video content has also led to advanced video production and storage needs along with the newer objective of standardized asset monetization associated with new revenue streams linked to Le Parisien’s partnership with the National Audiovisual Institute (INA).
The team needed a way to send its video content, rushes and archives to a centralized, cloud-based MAM that would then be able to enrich, organize and store content. At the same time, the solution needed compatible transfer to 3 different end destinations for Le Parisien’s content buyers and general audience:
- INA MEDIAPRO (National Audiovisual Institute) to be offered to external buyers
Le Parisien Looks Into AI-powered Media Hub Solution
In 2018, the Editorial Video Department’s Creation Director met Newsbridge at IBC, the global International Broadcasting Convention. The team was looking for an all-in-one solution to store and share video content and monetize archives. After discussing their need for a cloud-based solution that would meet their interoperability needs while managing archived assets and dematerialisation of on-prem equipment, it was clear Newsbridge met their preliminary requirements to integrate with INA, DailyMotion, YouTube, and more.
The team was also interested in Newsbridge’s automatic indexing and built-in AI-powered semantic search engine which allows for cross-analysis of faces, objects, logos, speech-to text and more. By allowing for advanced asset organization, search and retrieval the solution also permitted remote working, boosted collaboration and monetization with customized admin settings.
Le Parisien Adopts Newsbridge for Archive Valorization and Commercialization
Having adopted the Newsbridge platform in March 2021, Le Parisien’s master assets were sent to the platform, automatically indexed and time-stamped with hundreds of thousands of metadata, allowing for auto-keyword generation and searchability. This transfer of assets was made possible via a customized connector developed by Newsbridge’s engineering team.
The infused metadata stamping powered by AI added on an additional layer of efficiency in the form of SEO enrichment. When the team’s content is sent to Le Parisien’s Dailymotion and YouTube accounts, it is automatically pre-tagged with relevant keywords to make it efficiently searchable. In fact, Newsbridge’s signature semantic search engine allows users to find exact moments, quotes, individuals and context just by using the search bar. The department is also able to send to INA all relevant content in a collaborative manner.
Le Parisien + Newsbridge: By the Numbers
Today Le Parisien Editorial Video Department, on average, produces 5-10 videos per day for leparisien.fr via Dailymotion. Additionally, from april 2021 to date the team has sent over 1250 programs to Dailymotion, with more than 20 journalists also accessing the platform.
“Overnight our editorial video department shifted from a traditional workflow to a future-focused editorial factory by adopting Newsbridge’s AI-powered media hub.
